From a small town in the mountains of North Alabama to some of the largest churches and stages in the world, Steve Lacey's singing career has been nothing but God at some of His most amazing work. It all began with a dream, but God had bigger plans, much bigger than Steve ever imagined.
Music has always been a part of Steve's life. Being brought up in the same area that produced such legendary singers as Jake Hess, Vestal Goodman, the Speer family, and Jack Toney, the music was everywhere. Under the influence of his dad and his grandfather, Steve developed a great love for singing. "Most nights, I'd hide out in my bedroom and sing at the top of my lungs to the thousands with the Gaithers, the Imperials, the Statesmen, and so many others. I knew all of their songs by heart." Little did he know that one day he would share the stage with many of these same heroes.
His first big opportunity came when he joined the acclaimed Gold City Quartet. In 1992, Gold City was already the premier gospel quartet. During Steve's tenure, the success continued. The group was awarded with 3 Group of the Year awards, a Dove Award, Governor's Achievement Award, and induction into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Now, TBN, and many more, gave the group a world wide audience. Their "Pillars of Faith" project is still considered to be one of the greatest quartet recordings in history, winning Album of the Year two years in a row, an accomplishment that has never been repeated. Steve has had multiple nominations for Favorite Baritone, Horizon Individual, and Favorite Lead in the Singing News Fan Awards.
After leaving Gold City, Steve sang with the Kingdom Heirs at Dollywood and later his own group, the Laceys. During these years he developed his talents as a songwriter and has since had songs recorded by; Gold City, Signature Sound, the Talleys, Brian Free, the Kingdom Heirs, Debra Talley, the Kingsmen and the Laceys, just to name a few.
Steve is also a noted worship leader, having served churches in Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas as Minister of Worship. His abilities as a soloist and worship leader opened doors to work in revivals, crusades, and conferences all around the country with such notable pastors/ speakers such as; Dr. Adrian Rogers, Dr. Charles Stanley, Evangelist Junior Hill, Dr. Jerry Falwell, Dr. David Jeremiah, Evangelist David Ring, as well as hundreds of pastors in the local church.
Steve married the love of his life, Penny, in 1983. They have three grown children and a growing family; daughter Kelly and her husband Wade Phillips, with their sons Sam, Cole and daughter Halle, daughter Amanda and her husband Daniel Weaver, with their son Will, and son Ben and his wife Meagan. Steve and Penny make their home in Keller, TX.
"Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to Your name be the glory because of Your love and faithfulness."
~ Psalm 115:1
